Hi guys, I've suddenly got an oil leak on my abf.
I can see from underneath it's dripping off the filter housing, but from above the filter.
Had a good look and the filter isn't leaking, all sealed nicely.
Looks like it maybe from one of the joints in the housing.
Is this common? Any ideas where I should be looking?
Thanks

If it's from the oil cooler housing then it is likely that the pressure sender on it has popped a seal.
Easy fix and a couple of quid from an auto factors.

Is that on the top of the housing?

Just had a quick look and the three sensors on the top are not leaking, looks like onee of the metal-metal joints on the oil cooler housing.
Are there gasketed? How does it come apart?
-
Easy way to check if they are is to start the engine up, then get a mate to give it a bit of gas whilst you watch the top of the cooler housing. They will only leak when the system is pressurised.
P.S. make sure you have a good level of oil in the sump before you do.

Nice one, defiantly not leaking From the top.
Pretty sure its a joint leak.
Can't find the cooler in the Haynes manual, anyone got any info?

There is a gasket on the back of the cooler.
Also see if its mounted securely, i have seen one on an Audi where the nut had come loose.

Ok cool, think it seems to be coming out the back of the housing somewhere.

Ok, worth a try.
Does anyone have a guide on removing this? Not mentioned in Haynes
-
Remove oil filter, disconnect water hoses, remove the nut, remove oil cooler.
Its pretty simple.
The gasket is just an o-ring seal, it will cost a couple of quid at most.

Thanks mate, will give it a pop tomorrow.

Hella and Febi Bilstein are both decent brands, I'd go with the cheapest one.

Hi, I had the same problem on my 16v with the ABF it has a known fault of shaking the oil filter loose so check that and re tighten.
