Title: Golf 1.8 Turbo GTI revs dipping
Post by: Gabriel2202 on 02 June 2011, 10:46
Hi, I recently bought myself a mk4 golf gti t 1.8, and found that when i take it to around 4000 rpm the revs dip and it misfires, also i found when i stop it ticks over at about 900 rpm but momentarily dips to 600 rpm...

I know the previous owner had it remapped to 170bhp and put a turbo boost gauge on. Its done 75k, could it just be in need of a good service and/or cambelt change?.... any ideas what could be causing it?

Cheers

Hello,

Could be many things, sounds like you have the AGU  or ARZ engine code if your map is at 170bhp?

Issues with higher rpm missfire could be MAF, fuel pump, or split vac line on the fuel reg, or even poor spark plug and over boosting.

As with the tick over dip this could be down to an air leak on the PCV beather system, fault maf or dirty throttle body.

You best bet is get your car booked in with some one and get the fault codes read, fuel trims checked out and a quick viaual inspection of the engine. Most good VAG specailist should do this for peanuts ££ or FOC as it will only take 10mins.
