Title: ABS light on
Post by: D Squared on 01 June 2011, 20:44
Hi All,

Have a mk3 8 valve GTi, and the ABS light is on..

Any common faults?

Does this light come on with the handbrake?
Low brake fluid level?
Any warning sensors on pads?
Or just a faulty wheel sensor? if so how can i find out which one?

Cheers

Plug it in to VAG-COM and it will give you the fault code, this will tell you if a sensor has failed and which one etc.

The light doesn't come on with handbrake, nor does it indicate the low fluid level. Low fluid is shown by the handbrake light not going out

ok cheers for that, don't think my handbrake light works then? where is it on dash?

will need to find someone with a VAG-COM to get to the bottom of the problem then i guess..

Front and centre. Bulb may need replacing.

You can get leads that plug in your laptop off ebay for a tenner, and they come with Ross-tech trial VAGCOM, which is enough to read and clear fault codes.

cheers for that, i need to have the dash out again at some point as the illumination around MFA has also stopped working, so i'll look at the handbrake light aswell.

Ref laptop lead, do you have a link i can look at?

Cheers
