Post by: Tristangti on 01 June 2011, 13:19
Hi got a golf gti 8v mk3 yesterday I was driveing along and my oil light poped on with the enoying buzzing!got the rac out and the bloke said could be the oil presure as why the light came on,anyway I started up the car this morning and it's still tapping but the oil light has turned off and there's anuff presure going through!?do you think doing an oil change and engine flush might sort this out to stop it tapping?or is it not worth the hassle?i had a new oil and filter change last Friday and the car has been fine since up to yesterday help please!

i have a 1.8 8v mk2 gti and my oil light has been on since i've had the car, but no-one's been able to find anything wrong with it all... then last night as i was driving down a dual carriage way it started making a rattling noise and as i pulled off the engine jolted and cut out and i haven't been able to start since (just won't turn over)... do you think it could be related?

Thats what mine did last week!
Not entirely sure the exact cause of mine either tbh. I cant hear my fuel pump priming anymore, my oil temp was at 160 degrees, but my oil light didnt come up and now I have mayo in the expansion tank with a strong smell of oil, so think the headgasket has gone. And as the temp got so high, either my oil cooler has gone, or my oil pump, or pickup, or all, or some of the above!
I have just bought a new engine with all ancilliaries instead! 85 quid including delivery with 110k and full history, you really cant complain!
