Title: golf TSI
Post by: joey on 31 May 2011, 21:43
Hi all
looking for a TSI model, but getting mixed reviews, as some are saying the turbo does not last, and is very costly to replace.
what do you guys think?

thanks

Which engine are we talking about here? There's a 1.2 TSI, at least two 1.4 TSIs and the GTI TSI engine. I would guess that even the R is badged as a TSI.

The 1.4 super charged and turbo charged (the original TSI) is most known to give problems. It is an amazing bit of engineering but tends to drink a drop or two of oil and has a few other common problems too.

The 1.4 and 1.2 TSI turbo only engines should be okay as long as you don't start messing with the turbo boost too much.
What's the 2.0 140bhp TDI like for you youngsters to insure? That'd be my choice of engine.
My Dad has a 1.6 TDI (against my advice) and is okay for pootling about using hardly any fuel, but not much use for anything else. He regrets getting it.

I got the 1.4 122 TSI correct me if I'm wrong but the model with the turbo but no supercharger. Just verged 20 my first quote was £3000!! But managed to get it down to just under £1000 with admiral with EVERYTHINGYOUCOULDEVERTHINKOFONMYPOLICY!! Would recommend them highly!

That's probably the best compromise engine VW make. It's probably both nippy and economical. Maybe not so economical if you're running around with dead bodies in the boot though.......

Damn been caught! How did you know?    By dead bodies I meant subs. The car has been very good with 3 people and a boot full on a round trip to cornwall!! Very happy with it!!

I'm surprised I didn't hear your boomin' subs as you went past me on your way to Cornwall!

Haha I did not know otherwise I would of made a stop off! Im not sure the other half would be to impressed, she hates loud music! I had to listen to BBC radio 2 for most of it and god if the car could tell you how many times you have pressed the information buttons it would be more than I can count!!

Your other half makes you listen to Raido 2? Good grief, she's cruel. I'm middle aged and even I don't listen to Radio 2. Mind you I hate Radio 1 now though. BBC Radio 5 or 6 for me these days. My Missus listens to commercial radio and the adverts drive me insane, and the DJs, they're all clones of one another and extremely irritating clones at that.
Mind you, when you get to my age you'll find that your Missus irritates you when she's in a bad mood and really really irritates you when she's in a good mood, so your best bet is to keep her in a bad mood.
In fact you could say a wife is like a twin charged 1.4 TSI (I'm trying to get back on topic here), offers lots of promise when you're courting but ends up irritating the hell out of you shortly afterwards!
And on that note I'd best end..........

She does make me listen to radio 2 in my golf (still on topic), I do what she likes and keep her sweet :) I know where my breads buttered! Radio presenters all have massive ego's that never fade and becomes dull very shortly! Well luckily I'm not married, but for the car the honeymoon period isn't over, as I washed it today!

Hi London,

i notice u went with admiral? yep their cheap alright but there is a reason for that !! just hope u dont end up with needing to make a claim, world of pain and irritation, they just offload it to another company who need constant calling to see whats going on and chasing them up, maybe thats the norm though, the thing with these other parties they just offload the work to them and just dont communicate between each other so u end up repeating yourself over and over,

its a palava and my mrs' claim was as simple as they come!

i wont be renewing with them! u get what u pay for . rant over
