Hi,
im relatively new to the VW scene. i bought a mk2 (91) driver for 550 this week and the body and interior is immaculate. The only problem is iv taken it for mot today and it wants 460 of work on it, not sure how much is labour charge but i thought i would run it by the expireneced vw guys, so heres what its failed on-
All brake lines need replacing
wheel bearings need doing
both rear brake hose ferrule corroded
nearside rear seatbelt anchorage prescribed area is corroded
just wondering how much of this i can do myself, and how much the parts would be ect new or 2nd hand.
All help is appreciated.

Where are you at man? I might be able to help on parts.
As for the labour get a few more quotes in, you might save a bit.
Most of that list I'd get done by a garage as wleding and brake lines are beyond my skill/time/equipment level.

Hi bud, in doncaster. im considering whether just to pay it and lump it.
-
can you not just clean the brake pipes up with wire wool and then grease them??.Why did you pay that amount for a car with no mot??.For that money you could have got a decent runner.
-
While I largely agree with the previous post I'd say its good to keep any mkII going.
As said in the previous post, some time spent with wirebrush/wool and some grease would probably save a few quid.
-
Sounds about the right price for the work needed tbh.
-
The interior is immaculate, so is engine and body, but its just the bits iv mentioned that need doing.....shame its just pricey.

pics??

used to work in a garage and everytime something failed on brake lines corrode i would have to just clean them up with sandpaper and then cover them with white grease as all ready mentioned. if they cant see rust they cant fail it.

Take ur old breake pipes off without distorting them 2 much and take them 2 ur local garage/auto parts shop and they will make them up 4 u then all u have to do is fit them and bleed them which is easy to do just buy a self bleed kit witch attatces to ur tyre and let the tyre pressure do the work, as for welding I would get a garage to do that if u dont have 1.
Breake parts about £50-£70
Haynes manual about £20
Welding dont know if u ask about ur mates im sure they will know some1 with a welder that would do it for a drink.
I wouldnt pay that price tho

I dont know if i can be doing with the fuss of it though as i just want it on the road sharpish so il just get it done i rekon.Hope fully it wont need much on the next mot (hope) il try post some photos but i dont have any of the interior at the moment but i will post some.
