Hi gents, I've just had my RNS510 fitted and the rear camera isnt playing ball, the fitter has enabled it with VAGCOM but it still doesnt work.
He said it had an error along the lines of "module rear view camera no signal/communication" He called the technician at VW and they say that it needs to come in to get calibrated by them!!!
Is this correct? Has he missed something?
HELP!!!
Cheers,
Jim

It's not been coded it needs backup camera low enabling with VCDS.

Hi Steve, he says he ticked that option. I don't suppose you have a guide of the steps that need to take place do you please mate?
Thanks as always for your expert advice.

Have you rebooted the unit since by pressing < + > + i ?

Have you rebooted the unit since by pressing < + > + i ?
No Steve, I assume the < + > is pressing the track buttons on the top left of the unit at the same time but what is the i?
Thanks again.

It's the right most button, maybe a * if it is the LED version.
-
Its the top right hand button, will be a * on the latest LED units.
Edit - what mike said.

Then it can't be coded correctly.
What is it doing or not doing? Do you get any change on the screen when selecting reverse?

Yeah mate, when I select reverse the picture comes up of the car to show me the parking sensors are on and they work fine.
Jim
-
Then it certainly a coding issue.
-
Do i need the fitter to come back then Steve?
If you can you advise where and what he has to do please mate?

I had this info based on what Steve has told me before.
I think he has enabled the camera option in the CAN controller
(http://www.thewindinglane.co.uk/images/mk6gti/rns/rns1.jpg)
This would cause this error to be reported
(http://www.thewindinglane.co.uk/images/mk6gti/rns/rns3.jpg)
What he needs to do is enable the camera option in the RNS controller as Steve said above.

Thanks Steve & Mike, I really appreciate the advice. The screen shot will help out I think as the error code J772 is what he told me he had.
I'll get him to come back tomorrow and see how I get on.
I'll let you know how I get on.
Cheers again.

Thanks to everyone who helped me out, still not fixed but looks like the problem has been identified.
I have to say a massive thanks to N13KKF from the r32.oc. He supplied the RNS510, great price, excellent packaging and all round top man, going out of his way to make sure I had it delivered on time.
It may seem a bit daunting to send him money without knowing the guy but he has been nothing but superb.
Check him out if you're looking for an RNS510.

Sorted! Thanks everyone for helping, if anyone has a similar issue it was a Mike and Steve suggested, the fitter coded it in the CAN and not the RNS controller.

That image looks nice and clear Jim, is there any difference between that and the RCD with the camera?

Yes mate, it's loads clearer and brighter. That pic was taken with my crapy iPhone too so it's even better than the picture suggests.
If you're think of getting one I couldnt recommend anyone better that Nick from R32oc.com, top bloke.
Cheers,
Jim

Oh dear.
His RNS has an LED screen.

Cheers Jim, i knew the LED RNS gave a better image for general use and DVD playback but it's good to know it improves the camera image too.

It sure does, I might go and try it when it gets dark as I think that's where it will look even better. I'll try and get a pic if it looks good.

Please do as i would like to see what its like in the dark as if i go for Rear LEDs i may need a camera due to the reduced reversing light size.
-
Snoops: The solitary reverse light on the LED tails is next to useless and the one on the standard tails is not much cop either though very slightly better.
-
Sorry for the OT but is it a bilb or LED on the LED rear lights.

Agreed but reversing camera is great at night, and expecting it to be better with the RNS version C.
In about 30 mins it will be dark

I have front and rear parking sensors, I'm not sure if it's an RNS thing but I certainly didnt have that view on my RCD.

That must be why I don't get the car pic, I have the RNS fitted with rear camera but don't have the parking sensors. Sill it is a worthy piece of equipment which I love.

Nice one Jim.
If you had a front facing one of those you would hardly need lights

Best "extra" by far. Especially for the price of it.

Which LEDs? For the number plate or the actual big boys in the rear. You must LED your rear ASAP or your car will end up with piles.

Satellite feeds.

Its part of the RDS-TMC (http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/rds.html)protocol which comes via the FM frequency.
Which might be another reason why you can't have DAB with the RNS510?!?
A couple of months ago mine alerted me to congestion ahead when I wasn't even using the sat-nav. (no route set and just listening to the mp3 player) I never realised it could do this.
