Well after posting here a few months ago asking on advice on whether to get an 8 or 16v and getting about 100 replies and sparking a massive debate, ive thought "whats the biggest number, 115 or 150?......."
Ive therefore bought myself a mk3 golf gti 16v (off a member of this forum) to replace my mk2 driver
Afraid the pics arnt great but here goes!

Great car, very tidy
No abs but who really needs that anyway? One of the rear paasenger windows doesnt work but i dont care about people in the back anyway!
Not sure what those 17" rims are, possibly from an rs4 with vw centre caps? Think they look good though!
All opinions and ideas welcome

Looks good.
Wheels are RS4 reps.
-
Looks alright that. :afro:
-
Where's the ABS gone then?
-
Your right you don't need ABS, but you will for a mot lol
-
Where are the front fogs
-
Where are the front fogs
Was not standard, only on Anni's
-
Nice car but those wheels have been done to death.
-

Fogs were standard on all GTI 8v , 16v and VR6 models otherwise it was a £210 extra.

Fogs were not standard on all GTIs or VR6 cars unless you got a annie, or a highline, or a very late spec GTI/VR6 where they all had them
even the colour conceps it was a option
anyhow the car in question should have ABS too
-
Exactoh, My N plate 8v didn't have front fogs until I fitted them and ive seen plenty of other 8 and 16v's without them BUT it should have ABS and been a 16v it should also have EDL....il ask again, where the hell is it and how do you know it's not there?
Have you slammed the brakes on to try it out, is the dash light missing?

Thanks  I remember you telling me that ages ago, my 1996 8v had them but it was an option going by all the paperwork I had.
Abs was standard so if it is not working I would sort that asap.
-
Remember, if ABS is fitted and it doesn't work then your car will fail it's MOT.

The abs pump is missing for some reason, but the warning light on the dash isnt illuminated so i thought it would still pass? Although the handbrake light is constantly on, the previous owner did mention that that could be linked to an abs fault somehow?
In regards to the wheels, they may have been done to death but im still a lot happier with those than if they were the standard 16" ones so I cant complain!
-
If it's not there they can't test it, so pass lol
-
Well i was hoping it was a case of
"Is the warning light on"
-"No"
"PASS!"
But maybe that was a bit optimistic lol

Handbrake light is also fluid level so might be worth checking.

Standard wheels are 15", 16"s were only on Anni's

I believe it will fail if it does not light up

Better get that sorted then I suppose. The car did pass an mot like 2 months ago so it must have had a working abs system then? But now the pumps gone? Weird...
Looking at that copy of the specs list above, it says all 16v's had traction control as well? I was completly unaware of this! Ive never seen it mentioned before?

Yep was standard on 16v and VR's but is very basic.

You won't have it if the ABS is missing though as it's part of the same system.
-
It's a very basic systems that only works up to 30mph. It's good for pulling out in the wet and thats about it.
-
Oh ok, so it basically slows down the wheels to stop them spinning in 1st and 2nd when theres little traction? Is that right?
And if its linked to the abs system, does that mean when i get a new abs pump then the traction control will work straight away or will it need recalibration or something? Sorry, i only have a basic understanding of cars compared to you lot!
