Hi Guys,
I'm soon going to be doing a conversion from my AGG to nice and shiny 2E. Ive got the ECU, loom and engine (with all ancillaries).
I'm changing the box at the same time (to one that doesnt crunch in reverse!)
How much of the loom will need changing? Will it need changing all the way to the fusebox? Will I need to change the ECU or will my current one work? (I imagine not as the sensors are different?)
Will I need to recode my key to the new ECU or does the 2E not have an immobiliser?
Its the first engine change i've done, the most I have done before is gearboxes, I know this is a big jump but myself and my mate that is helping are quite technical and mechincally minded so hopefully should be able to manage.
Can anyone foresee any potential problems we might encounter?
Many Thanks
Will

look after my old engine.. it was always good to me
their was no coded sh!t on the early ones so you are all good to go their
-
haha, just got your PM about immo so thats cool :)
The only bit i'm scared about is the wiring :P The rest is just lift in and bolt in :P
I will look after her! :)

Would be better to switch back to the 2e ecu and loom set up if you have it.

Infact you need to switch to the 2E ECU. It has an ISV and various other bits and that AGG doesn't, and vice versa (crank sensor).

That is what I was thinking, I remember a thread of yours saying they were a lot different.

AGG and 2E are diffrent injection systems all together the 2E was digifant and the AGG was Simos. ECU is a must, engine loom for sure, dashloom, that can stay.
-
I'm glad the dashloom can stay, that would mean it taking even longer!
The clocks are same?
Ive got the ECU and engine loom so that will help :)

Can I ask the reason for wanting to switch back to the older engine

Yeap i give him my ECU and the loom with the engine, i have the origial clocks that was in the car when i bought it, ill sell them if need be but yours will work fine
Wayne, its my old lump - clean good strong engine and the 2E's were the best of the 8v bunch (my opinion).

Not entirely happy with mine, headgasket is seeping oil (getting worse), it needs a good service (cambelt) and Brad's 2E is well looked after, shiny (the GF likes this...lol) and a better engine?

 good luck with sorting it.

ill miss that engine i spent alot of time keeping it well...
for a 8v it always performed well. suprised me anyhow
-
The 2E was a better engine for sure, AGG never seemed as lively as my 2E did. good luck
-
The 8v weather it be a 2E or AGG is a pretty solid reliable lump my AGG unit has been 110% reliable more so than other mk3s ive own with more valves good luck with the swap...
-
Ah glad this has been asked. My AGG has just died a horrible death, and was wondering what was involved to switch to another 8v lump. Think I may just try and find another AGG as I cant be arsed with the rest of it!
-
must admit the 8v lumps are solid, i think the issues most have with the later versions was all the silly sensors that the 2E never had

Shame they are worthless, Mine is almost at 30k I would sell it if it got good money.
