Title: Rear Coilover top mount removal?
Post by: nathanpotato on 30 May 2011, 16:45
Hi I’m having a bit of a problem with a rear coilovers top mount.

I was planning on dismantling the coilovers to give them a good clean before I fit them however on one of the coilovers, after removing the top nut the top mount just came right off easy however on the other one I can’t seem to get it off.

It spins around but just won’t pull off any ideas. Here’s a picture of it would I need to remove that nut and if so is there a special tool I would use? Thanks

could you get a long socket and grind it to match the slots?  I use a long one with flats ground on to get my front coils off (used it today to change top mounts lol) Need to hold the inner shaft with allen key i got a long one from halfords with a soft handle made it a lot easier to stop the shaft spinning while removing the nut bit

Thanks for the reply I’ve only got really basic tools though so couldn’t really grind anything. The nut moves using my hand up and down to a certain point but when the other rear top mount just lifted off without removing the nut I wasn’t sure if I actually needed to remove it.
