Title: Misfire at 60mph
Post by: gavcradd on 02 April 2005, 11:24
Hi, firstly this looks like a really excellent, friendly forum...it's a shame I only find these places when I've got problems, rather than when I had some good news to post!!

Ive had a P reg 1997 2.0L Golf GTi (MK3) for just over 12 months now, and a few months ago it started to misfire and judder as I got up to 60mph. It's now taken to really judder, bone shakingly so, at 60mph, and I'm lucky if I can get it to go past about 70mph at all even with foot to the floor. It also tends to occasionally cut out as I stop at traffic lights, etc. I think it's lost some power too, but with it happening slowly, I haven't really noticed.

I've replaced the spark plugs, plug leads, distributor cap and rotor arm, but no improvement at all. It's booked into a garage on Monday to be connected to a computer for some sort of electronic diagnostic test.

I've read through some of the other posts, and a lot of people mention the MAF...is this the onboard computer? The display all seems to be working, and it's showing a normal MPG, around 35ish, even with this problem. Could it be playing up?

Any ideas at all would be much appreciated!!!!!!

Ah.... cheers for clearing that up! I'm going to have a play around today, if I manage to sort it I'll post the solution on here in case anybody else is having the same problem.

Cheers again
