I just got myself a mk3 vr6 for a steal on the bay, its got high mileage just under 170k, any suggestions for an engine with that mileage, rebuild maybe, if so how hard is that gonna be.
thanks

Yes really but it is a major job, engine has to come out

ok will check that out, is there any easy power gains to be had from the vr lump?

Give it a good service to make sure that its all running correctly, then basic breathing mods, exhaust, upgraded filter etc. That usually works for me, its amazing ow much difference this makes  Also, concentrate on the handling and it will feel even quicker.
As for proper power gains, I dont know  but its always best to start with the basics.

I'm starting with schrick 268 cams, lightened flywheel and schrick inlet manifold. Mine has just been rebuilt, but I can't help but think about lighting and balancing the crank, H forged rods, forged high compression pistons. Lots of head work with titanium parts. And I keep thinking about throttle bodies, As that might cost a little bit more than the schrick inlet, but I don't know much it will increase the power. I will have to change the cams to 276 too
And then after all that you will need a LSD for sure and better brakes and good suspension, to put all the power to good use.

With the VR6 it depends on how deep your pockets are when talking about performance upgrades theres no quick / cheap BHP gains. The £££ out ways the amount of BHP you get back, as other people have said id get a big service done first, chains and tensioners while your at it, then sort the handling ie springs and dampers or coilovers as the VRs suspension aint the best in the world a good set of tyres next, a induction kit or drilled air box is a must for any VR owner, Miltek cat back exauste, enlarged throttle body and after that it depends how deep them pockets are as tweed said cams, flywheel, inlet manifold, forged rods they all big bucks and after all that a big old turbo or super charger is going to put ya on ya way to nearly 300bhp which is nice..........
