Title: help and advise on recovering mk3 headlining
Post by: dazzawest1987 on 28 May 2011, 17:01
hi all, attempted to recover my headlining today and didnt go well, personally i think for two reasons, one i tried to do it on my own and two the material seemd to be to rigid to get into all the different grooves, so im going to get some more material.
where did you get your material or where do you suggest i get some material from? (faux suede or similar)
and do you have any tips or advise to help me for next time?
really appreciate any form of advise or tips that you can give me
cheers
darren

ebay is all well and good if you know what exactly your getting, but its worth looking around a bit as you need something with a little bit of stretch to get into the corners etc. Have a look in the local markets, or Denolm Mill if you have one. Somewhere like that anyway, you can pick it up just as cheap as you would on ebay and get it there and then.

Yep, it was really easy to be honest, my only tip would be get the REALLY strong glue in a tin with a brush from places lice Machine Mart etc or even a local Upholsterer as it will be the glue that lets you down!!

Sorry mate, I misunderstood. The roof lining itself was done in 1 piece, and the pillars were done seperately.

update for those interested, redone my headling last weekend, using faux suede from www.fabric-online.co.uk , nice and thin and managable, used wickes contact adhesive as recommended before on her and done a lil bit at a time, pretty pleased with the results the front edge isnt perfect kept ending up with loads of slack in the middle. pic of about how i stuck each time (http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y379/dazzawest/d425d294.jpg) and a pic of it in the car
(http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y379/dazzawest/4eba9b9f.jpg)
also if you trimming your headling black you prob want black interior trim aswel, i painted mine satin black from halford and was a very good match, although today i painted a lower glove box i bought black with this stuff (http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y379/dazzawest/7b4246ae.jpg) and the match is as good as perfect and feels a bit tougher so thats probaly the better stuff to go for.
hopefully this'll be help to the people considering doing this as i couldnt find that much info about it on this forum
cheers darren
