Title: Fibre Glass on Exhaust

Clutching at straws here but need to shift my older mk3 and it has a hole on the rear silencer....Want to put it through the NCT (MOT) but will obviously fail on emissions...

Cheapest I can get it welded for is 100 euro and its cheaper than getting a new back box....Cant get one in any of the scrappys...

So could you use fibre glass to repair the hole? Cant use an exhaust bandage due to the location of the hole, its near the pipe..... Googled the operating temp and think it would be ok...

Just want to get it through the test as cheap as possible

I wouldn't mate. Recon it would melt.
What is the location of the hole?

I bought a scorpion stainless backbox for £40 off ebay, i'm sure you could find something on there.

That is true I bought a universal twin can stainless steel back box for £10.50 off ebay then payed £10 for a flexi pipe.
Abit of messing around and hay presto I got a wicked exhaust.

Fibreglass can't melt, its in a thermoset resin, but it could burn if it got hot enough. It sounds like a bodge though to me, do as the others have said and just get one off ebay.

Yeah try eBay mate I got my magnex for £25 iirc
