That's a result.... Yes you could argue this shouldn't happen but fair do's to VW for replacing them.
I wonder what the dealer does with the old wheels. I should imagine they have to send them back to the factory?
-
I had some replaced on my old Leon.
They said they'd be sent off for auction...

Ebay then?

But what will they do when the replacement set starts go the same way?

Maybe but Snoopy's got first refusal on them.

Not keeping them, got some 19" BBS CK's now.
Dealer said the corroded one's get returned to VW.
-
New tyres too, I would hope.
-
Good news that they're being replaced Steve.
Pretty piss poor situation that they've corroded to be honest considering your car isn't a daily driver
-
Good news on getting them changed.
I've already had 3 centre caps swapped, despite the VW centres only being used in summer.
It's a dismal situation really.
-
Is this the 'spacer' thing that corroded, and they replaced due to this? Mine have corroded

You don't get these problems with 17" 's as they are made from Kryptonite.

17" is not that small, but I agree they do look like little polo mints on a GTI.
-
All this is good news as all four of mine are rusting on that hub bit. I've been meaning to start a thread on them for ages before the car goes in for its 2nd service in July so I will now be arguing very strongly for replacements. Mine are a lot worse than the photo at the start of this thread.

Yes get them replaced, i had 2 sets replaced on the MK5, Thats why i don't have them fitted to the MK6
Cost a packet to repair if they even sniff a kerb and always get the dreaded worm

My monza'a are stored away at the moment as I didn't want them to get damaged over winter. In hindsight I might as well just have left them on the car waited for the white worm to appear and get a new set anyway.

I know but look at the fun I've had experimenting with differet sets of wheels ( + its been a great excuse to pee the wife off  )

Hindsight is a great thing, but you'll only ever find the route to true happiness and a peaceful soul via a bit of experimentation. And that concludes today's sermon. Amen.

No, the 17" look better.
After a year or so anyway when the white worm has attacked and the kerbing is too expensive to repair

Not so blingy and slighty more economical.
I know, the shadows look better but too many negatives for me.

When I had my MK5 GTI I had to get three of the alloys replaced under warranty, these were made by BBS.
My current wheels on the MK6 are made by Ronal and so far so good

Tornado Red GTIs don't get white worm. :smug:

Asker
You are safe, you need to go over 40mph before they attack

Absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
I'm guessing you're on the wine again....

And why not on a Friday

Be a good friend and let's swap wheels or I'll be a good friend and swap more expensive and prittier ones with your Polo mints.
I know all your little tricks of trying to drive down the price. No matter, I am a kind and generous person. Either way, you win and I lose.

No I am not. Don't drink alcohol too often. Against my religious teachings. :smug:
I went for Friday prayers today and then went on a demo. Nearly got shot ..... in the REAR!

Later Mk5's also had Ronals after BBS went bust.

Having previously been refused replacement of my 18inch monza's at one dealership (as one wheel had been repaired by a dealer prior to purchase), I took the advice from some previous posts and asked another dealer. I have just had 2 new monza's replaced under warranty and they repaired part of the boot trim that had been damaged without me even asking them to. Result! Thanks for the advice from this forum.
-

I bought a set of monza shadows for my GTD (mkV grey inserts) and was having them refurbed black inserts for my mk6 GTD and whilst I was at Lepsons (in swindon) their collection van was off to pick up sets of wheels from VW dealerships, Merc dealerships and BMW in the wiltshire / oxfordshire and further afield, so at least this is what happens to them down south. I presume when they are back to fully refurbed they get fitted to another car (maybe used stock?) or sold on in as new condition. Obviously they get a cracking volume trade discount at Lepsons......

AAARGH! advice please (appologies if this has been covered before - I can't find it!)
...so while I had the car in to be serviced, I pointed out that one of my Shaddows has white worm (just starting around the center). I'd expected the wheel to be replaced without hastle.
To my amazement, the dealer refused to replace or repair it and pointed out two very, very slight kerbing marks around the wheel edge. Really really slight... two other wheels are much worse.
The gave some crap excuse about how it would be "better-ment" if they replaced the wheel. I'm extreeeemenly p*$$ed off: the wheel clearly has a manufacturing fault. It should make no difference whether the wheel is in pristine condition. They're not even pretending that the problem has occurred because of the kerbing (which would be rediculous since the white worm is starting at the center).
I phoned VW customer service, and got the same bla. They agreed to "challenge" the decision, but it didn't sound encouraging.
How can they possibly do this! Next they'll be refusing all warranty claims if there's any evidence that the car has been driven.
Has anyone had similar experience? Any advice on how to proceed.
Many thanks, Richard

Hi mate, sounds very poor. I had a wheel replaced under warranty with no problems at all. It's a clear problem with this wheel and the only thing I suggest is you keep complaining.
Mention that you know of many members on this forum who have had wheels replaced under warranty. I would also suggest going to another dealer and seeing if they'll do the work.
Good luck.
Jim

Sadly, if you drive the car, you will get stonechips on the wheel and whiteworm will set in.
VW need to have a word with themselves and stop fitting polished type wheels...they've been getting fitted since the Mk3 and they never learn.
Polished type wheels + UK salt & grit = catastrophy. :lipsrsealed:

Surely it's the same with anything though. If they replace a defective clutch, it's "better-ment" as you then have X less miles on the clutch. If they replace a defective shock absorber, it's "better-ment" as you have X less miles on the new shock. If they replace anything, you're always going to have a newer part with less wear and tear than you did originally. What a bull$hit arguement.

Sorry to hear about your trouble.
My dealer has agreed to replace 3 of my missus Shadows but wouldn't do the fourth because it had been kerbed.
Bit gutted about that one, because it was done by the previous owner but what can you do?
I did point the white worm out to them at the second service and it was the same guy at the third service so he was aware of it. It did help that the car only had 17k on it
Decided to bite the bullet with the fourth and buy a new one, then at least have a warranty on all of them.
Will get the one they won't replace back and put it on eBay, so it will not have the full cost of replacement.
