Hi guys, basically its oil change time... ive got a 1999 1.8t agu engine 160k.
Ive read fully synthetic 5w30 is what should be used (although halfords recommend something different :S).
Is it okay using 5w30 in an engine with this mileage or should i go for something abit thicker ??
Help appreciated :)

:afro: also worth looking at and maybe changing your oil pump pick up pipe.

10w40 never had a problem, change regular tho

Im pretty sure i have 10w40 in it atm and im having no problems atall :) havnt had to top it up once within 3 months.
Yeh the pickup pipe is something im defiantly going to be looking at! As my oil pressure light keeps coming on recently when going round corners :(

Can you buy the pickup pipe separate from the pump itself? As i cant really afford a new pump aswell :/
Tbh ive only just read up on this sludge problem..the warning light has been coming on occasionally since i brought the car 3 months ago when going round a big corners...if i knew about it sooner i would of sorted it! :(
Car sounds and runs healthy atm tho, so looks like ive been lucky. Sumps coming off at the weekend!!

I changed my pick up pipe about a month ago when I changed to 10W40 oil and the pipe including a new o-ring came to about £14. There is no sump gasket, you use sealant instead and to be on the safe side I bought mine from VW and this cost more money than the pipe at £20!!
