Title: Audi propshaft seal
Post by: AudiA8Quattro on 24 May 2011, 10:43
This question will probably apply to vw's as well as audi's.
I need to replace the front prop seal on the A8, the dealer told me today that if i replace the seal then i also need to replace the flange, as they are matched.
The seal is 17 quid, the flange 180 quid
I've never heard of this before, is this correct?
cheers.

Seems odd, I cannot see the flange being matched to the seal.

I would clean it up with fine emery paper then fit a new seal.

We do lots of propshaft seals in work and never replace the flange unless badly marked.

Thanks Wayne.
Its what the dealer said Audi advise.
Maybe it is just an advisory then. Matched doesn't seem right.

I would chance it tbh, £17 for the seal as I said clean the flange and see what happens, if it leaks again then you know your looking at a new flange if not you have saved loads.

Problem is its not a job i want to do twice.
To be honest i'm looking at paying to get it done, i need to get the car up on all 4 corners really.

Fair enough, I still think you will be ok to reuse the old flange.
