Title: newbie questions
Post by: davie0146 on 01 April 2005, 10:36
Hey up peeps

Newbie here

Just bought a 1986 golf gli convertible LHD (1 owner FSH) with some sort of CC livery on it. Any idea what its represents? We were told it was Christmas car from the owners who purchased it from new in germany. But others have said it stands for coco chanel but the coco label is different.

Also what is the difference in the gli from the gti

Cheers

And will be putting up some more questions shortly

dave

ps the car in the siggy is mine we have a passion for white 80,s cars

The CC will be for coco chanel, they only did them for one year I think and that was 1986. There is no real difference between a GTi and a GLi it's just a badging thing although I think cabs were 1.6 GLi's in the early years although by 1986 they should be 1.8 GTi's but as yours is a German car that will probably explain that.

By the way, another forum member on here (carrie) has a 1986 CC so you can compare badges etc.

Welcome to the site by the way.

cheers for the help guys

the coco chanel thing still doesn,t hit with m e i would have thought if it was a special edition it would have used the actual chanel logo with the 2 C's back to back ie perfume bottle lable.

the golf does need some pampering and the alloys are fooked the white painted bits are ok but the polished bits are well corroded, any idea if its worthe getting them refurb or binem for new?

as for servicing ie filters etc i can use golf gti bits

I'll be getting a reputation as a train spotter soon !

Davie0146, I might get a load of stick for this but is that an RS Turbo custom pack I see in your sig ! Quality ! I'd say get the wheels refurbed if they are the ones that should be on that special edition as it will be worth more with them on.

ok, cc dosnt mean chanel as far as i am aware it is just a cc special edition.
as far as i am aware on the gli/gti issue the gti cabrio was only badged as a gti in uk on the earlier ones, outside the uk they got called gli.
as mine is a uk it is a gti (have the brocure the car in the pics has the usual gti badges) but the log book is listed cc as for some reason the special edition reference took precidence over the gti bit.
there should be a cc logo on the rear and on the sides. as well as the seats the hood if the original vinyl will be dark blue with cc logo embossed on it, mine has been replace with mohair (by now most of them have lost the original roof as pvc splits) the door panels should have cc logo on them too.
the interior roof lining should be white with cc embossed logo same as the original roof would of had.
other original parts are:
the grille should be 11 bar with spots and the bumpers were white small ones (i.e. as tintops but white) the wheels should be the funny looking ones fitted to the roccos (not sure what they are called) and they should be in white/silver.

thats about all i can remember at the moment, hope it helps a bit

Depends how much you want to spend ! I've said this loads lately but I got a streetline lowering kit on my cab about six weeks ago, it's got budget springs (Ventura) and Bilstein shocks, cost me £135 from Euro Car Parts in Leeds and lowers about 40mm, I've been happy with them so far. See the Deals and Discounts section as you will get a discount if you order with Stuart at ECP in the Leeds branch (and only Leeds). He's a top man and he'll have them out to you in no time if they are in stock. If you want something more expensive then it boils down to how much money you want to throw at it.

P.S. Poorly or not poorly, I'm still loving that RS Custom !

P.P.S Where's my coat !
