Title: Exhaust leak.
Post by: chiefwhosm on 23 May 2011, 21:17
Hi,
So my recently purchased golf has a leak in the exhaust, but I'm unsure as to which pipes these are, I *think* its the catalytic convertor connected diretly to the silencer, but I thought I'd check.

I'm somewhat curious as to whether it's normal for an exhaust pipe to be at this V shape angle, and also if there are any gaskets or just bolts that could be tightened in case its just lose.

The previous owner I'm told fitted a new catalytic converter two years ago, so wondered if they didn't tighten something up properly.

Here's the photo with a circle depicting the leaking join.

Thanks, are those two parts though meant to join together, nothing missing etc?

Also am I right that that is the silencer<>catalytic converter and not another pipe going into the silencer?

Oh and I'm guessing it makes no difference but the car is a 1.4 CL.
