im new to this forum and golfs, i picked up my 1988 black 3 door on friday and im interested to know what rpm the rev limiter should kick in, as it seems to kick in at just a bit over 6k, which seems a bit soon to me, but as i said i've not had one before so i don't know if this is normal or not.
it has a rebuilt 1991 engine in it if that helps at all
cheers in advance

Around 6200 is normal

that's okay then, it seemed a bit strange that it doesn't pull into the red on the rev counter so i just wanted to check
cheers

may have 16v clocks

yeah i think they are 16v clocks, they look like this...

but obviously in mph... though the speedo itself only goes to 120 and not 140...

Peak power when standard is at about 5800 rpm... or is it 5500? Somewhere in the upper reaches of 5 k anyway. Point being its running out of puff by 6k
-
power on my 8v drops starts to roll off at 5750 according to my rolling road graph. Limit is 6200 but that only any use in first gear
-
5500 and change gear
-
^ Disagree, the revs will drop too much when changing gear and you'll be out of the powerband. 5700/5900 is the way to go IMO

just ordered some 8v clocks :D
