Evening all, been told I need my Aux Belt replaced. Had a wee look at it and it does seem to look rather done in lol, plus theres a tiny ..wudnt say chip but like a bump on it.
What sort of price you looking for a new one?
Is it an easy job to do? or should I ask my mechanic mate lol
Cheers, Craig.

Easy peasey. 5 minute job with a large spanner to release the tensioner and a suitable dowel (large drill bit etc) to hold it back.
Source a genuine belt for the sake of a couple more quid.

eurocarparts

Well I only got told this tonight so too late to call around so thought i'd do the next best thing and ask the Golf lot lol. I think i might try VW instead of Autofactors. Genuine bits surely are better. Last time I used the autofactors nearby they said it was a Genuine part and turned out it wasn't so i got my money back after a bit of a debate.
Any idea of price? Plus some pics of what im looking at would be good. (Tensioner)

Not the best pic:

In that first image the tensioner has been pulled back driving off the big square lug you can see in the pic and a rod placed through the holes to hold it back. Be warned there's some serious tension in the tensioner so make double sure the pin/dowel is a good fit and holding it firm and make a note of the belt fitment before whipping it off
Etka saying £35/50 @VW for a new aux belt on a 2000 1.8t
