Title: Rev problem on 1.8 N/A
Post by: J_V_Dub on 23 May 2011, 19:03
Hi Guys,

Have a bit of a problem with the revs on my MK4. 2 days ago whilst starting up the hill the revs suddenly went wild, they jumped from about 1200 to 5000 in a split of a second, when changed to 2nd gear same thing happened. It now does it whenever I'm in lower gear, it feels like it over revs and then when you change the gear it's under revved if that makes sense.

Anyone has an idea on what that could be, I read about the throttle body clean which I will do on the weekend but anything else that can affect it???

Cheers
Jack

Could the clutch be worn? When under load it slips hence the revs rising and the car not going anywhere?

.....alot! Had to have mine done in the mk3 and the cheapest garage wanted about £400, ended up getting a local 'cash in hand' bloke to do it for £250 ish.
