Title: Exhaust price fitted (now with picture of butchered CAT)
Post by: mattmk4 on 23 May 2011, 14:08
Been quoted £580 by Kwik-fit to fit a full exhaust from the manifold to rear box

Went to my local Boro tyres who have had garage of the year twice in the last 3 years and got quoted £414 fully fitted for the same thing.

Is this still a reasonable price for a full exhaust?

Reason for replacement is that it is blowing on the middle section and someone has cut and welded a cat in place onto the original VW system using 2 smaller bore pipes between the cat to downpipe and cat to middle section.

I assume im losing a massive amount of power with the current condition?

I assume that's including a new CAT if its coming from the manifold to the rear of the car.  If so that's a decent price

If its from the CAT back then that's expensive.  18 months ago I paid £300 for a catback stainless steel system fitted

So they've fitted smaller pipework??   Crikey, the original CAT is restrictive enough without some numpty restricting it further!

Are you staying standard or going stainless......???
I have been quoted 200 notes for a powerflow cat and 280 for a powerflow exhaust....

thats for a standard system, powerflow is 45 miles away from me and its too much hassle.

I need the downpipe too because of the way the present system has been butchered so powerflow is a no go at this stage

Yes its a full system including the downpipe from the manifold

I'll upload some pictures of the current CAT!

how much effect does a restrictive exhaust and/or blowing exhaust have to the performance of  a car?

Well on a turbo car it'll be massive!

That's probably one of the most botched up jobs I've ever seen

mild steel is crap, thats quite expensive which theyve quoted you, i can respect if youre on a budget, like most of us, but if youre getting a new exhaust, stainless is so much better, where abouts are you based? i paid £220 for decat full stainless, it would of been £280 with cat, and thats from a proper exhaust fabricators, not the quikfit cowboys, have a look in your local yellow pages

It's worth travelling the 45 miles to powerflow. They'll probably be cheaper, it'll be stainless (lifetime warranty usually) and you'll be able to choose the system (looks and sound) to match your needs.

They're an exhaust specialist, they'll be able to do anything you ask for. Give them a call and find out

The cat is not worth saving, it should not fitted to your car as the bore is too small so it will be causing a restriction
