Does any one know how it would compare? I think its time for a VR6 but im running a 1.8 MK3 and a 1.8turbo passat, i cant really afford the economy to drop any more as the passat only gets 24/26MPG day to day and 32/34mpg on a run Do you think i would notice much diffrence with a VR6?
-
Yes, the VR6 will murder the juice, I find my 1.8t good on fuel for the power etc.
-
my passat is an estate so its a bit heavy, i find it underpowerd for 24mpg  Its only the 150bhp tho.
What sort of MPG is realistic for the VR6 arround town then?
-
Mine vr does 18.5mpg  I put £15 in my gti 8v and it lasts all week. I put about £40 in the vr doing the same thing

Around 16 to 18 from people I know with them, my RS is around 28.

No way if you aint heavy footed i get 28mpg in my vr im my 20v (golf) that mudaf**ker sucks petrol like americans at an oil well

Wouldnt Americans at an oil well be sucking oil!?

Exactly my pointttt

My Passat is a Jekyle and Hyde, depends how I drive it!
If I have a huge grin on my face then around town it can go down to 18mpg. A long drive on the motorway at ahem a high cruising speed I get 30mpg and driven gently on A/B roads at 50 then I can get 40mpg.

vr6 drink juice, 20mpg with town driving!

VR6 must be better than that, the Audi does about 16 to 17

VR estate = 20-25mpg even light footed on a long run, around town = low teens
VRG3 = high 20smpg at best, around town = high teens.
1.8T estate = around the 30mpg mark with a light foot, around town = low teens
1.8T saloon/hatch = 40mpg long runs, around town = low twentys
-
i normally get low 20's on town driving, on motorways i tend to get anything from 28-32

Where are you getting your figures for the vr6 from?
My 4.2 V8 auto does mid teen figures, i can't remember when i owned the vr it being that bad. You certainly know about it with the audi
1.8T is surprisingly frugal in 150bhp state.

Used to drive a VR estate around. 1 run from lincoln to staffs no booting it, no sudden accelerations, returned 25mpg. Rubbish imo.
Drove a mates VR G3 around for a day, first just pootle around got it up to 28mpg, started driving a bit harder and it plummets to high teens, and could probably have got it lower if I really tried.
but lets be honest here, you don't buy a VR for it's frugal fuel consumption do you. :lipsrsealed:
-
You've got a point there Mr.Slick
When i had my mk3 vr i could get mid 30's on a long run stuck in 5th, but it did plumet once i put my foot down.
You think that's bad, try fuelling and running my A8 for a month

mk3 golf vr6!!!! EPA estimate 26 mpg (city) or 32 mpg (highway), with 261 mi (420 km) per tank (city) and 363 mi (584 km) per tank (highway).
