My mates son had this problem, 3 driveshafts in 2 months, it was always the nearside. It was finally traced to the engine sitting to far one way in the engine bay, It was shofted oved a few MM and its been fine ever since.......try investigating that!!
-
I will do mate.. I need get bottom of it .. Gona head to garage now see what they make of it
-
you were right mate it is the offside AGAIN! the mechanic said to get a genuine one from somwhere or a oe approved copy as these reconed ones are just sh!t

I would just go OEM from TPS, if not you will be posting the same post in a few months time. You pay the extra for quality and a warranty
-
I agree totaly.. But 250 quid for an offside driveshaft.. It has be made of gold or with damionds for that much lol.. Surely must be somewhere cheaper
-
This happened to me (passenger side) driveshaft went, CV joint totally gone! One of my mates is a mechanic and hes told me and so has a few folk in his work its down to the wishbones under pressure... with having it lowered so much the stress put on from that is enough to set things off as they all keep telling me... "vw put it at standard height as thats the best height for your car" lol. Now im having my coilovers off on sunday to go bk to standard, lost interest in my golf and hoping to get it traded in asap. He also said you can get different driveshafts? shortened or something i dunno tbh. Maybe time to just put ur suspension up a bit.
-
Mate I have standard suspension lol I don't have it lowered or nothing was meant get the bits to lower it this week but now money is going to the driveshaft crap.. After this don't think gonna bother lowering it.. :-(
-
Hmmm right well im no use then ha, sorry buddy i thought u were lowered. Don't know why this is happening then. Maybe something not tightened right? When I had mines replaced my mate done it and afterwards i was getting like a knocking noise wen slowing down without using the break and like in 2nd gear. Turned out it wasnt tight enough in the hub part of it which has now been fixed and no more knocking... You had that?
-

Get a nice garage to get it trade for you?
-
maybe consider where your engine is sitting like chris36 said, dont know how right this could be, but its a free/cheap thing to check :afro:
-
Yh iv had knockin but that was before and after about month knocking the driveshaft snapped .. Then got it replaced and twice its ended up with play in it.. I put it down too the crap re-con job mate.. Spoke few garages they all say same thing..as the driveshaft I replaced snaped one with was a re-con has 2 years waranty but had enuf keep on geting it fixed just gona source an original or a propa oe one
Hmmm but rich dat still would be expensive and I don't have that much. Jus got 180 which was meant be for coilovers :-(.. Got a mechanic whch said he can get me a genuine offside one but need trade my old one in and 50 quid on top.. So gonna put my hopes into that lol.. All other mechanics around her are right money grabbers fully trust this one so hope the deal goes well gota wait til wensday hear the verdict otherwise might just get the one above link I posted.
-
£50 is cheaper, what about s/hand genuine from scrappy?
Just make sure no front end damage
-
How do I check hw engine is siting?
-
I woudnt trust scrapy here mate and there only one scrapy here that would have vw part.. And he's a snidey thingy had some bad service from them In past lol I shoulda got a jap loads jap scrappys here loll
-
yeah but then you would have to trade in your knife and fork and roast dinner, for a bowl of rice and two twigs. Not cool
-
Lolll stil cheaper then trading in old parts off your car lol.. When checkin engine shall I chek top mounts are level
-
Top mounts for suspension mate, engine mounts is what you need. Dont just go undo-ing these as you please though!
Maybe slacken both off and tighten up equally (drivers and passenger, dont worry about dogbone), but dont know if this will sort it, but is cheap to do.
If you are unsure get a mate to do it, mechanic will probably charge you for just doing some bolts up.
If you do though mate, might need new bolts as they stretch ones
-
Oh k get ya.. Ill get the machinc av a look he won't charge me just do the bolts up.. Been using him for years so he's ok like that lol ..
Iv had enuff of lookin at the car at the mo. Gna let it rot til wensday :-@
-
i was having bad problems with mine mate, really fcuking me off and had enough.
thought i had driveshaft issue and turned out to be an engine mount. Different scenario to yours though.
couple of days of not driving it means it feels quicker when you do again!
-
Lol that's only way reason iv nt sold it yet.. Just when take it for good boot after all the crap it gives puts smile on my face lol.. Damn I hate cars.. Burn more hole in the pocket then women!
-
I got a re-con one from a autofactors but i think they just re-con the cv joint as if the driveshaft itself has snapped theres no way they would re-con that surely? thats playing with fire.
-
Woudnt wana recon it mate.. Did that last time and bak to square one half year later.
-
Well hopefully once traded in asap! I'll not have to worry. Not a nice thing to do passing on a car with potential problems. The next 3 weeks for me is win or loose. Finish my apprenticeship as a Joiner and find out if they're keeping me on or not. Looks good but need to be sensible and not go for a 10grand car and no way of paying! haha.
-
Haha yh you don't wana be fooked by a finance company that's worser then having driveshaft go lmao.. There good cars its jus when they do decide to fook up its something always major
-
There good cars its jus when they do decide to fook up its something always major and extortionately expensive
-
Lmao thanks for corection dave
-
Your right there guys. Ive had my fair share of doing the "build up no claims" with this gorgeous 1.4 of mines haha. Time to move onto the bigger and better!
-
right guys i have been having a think (not good :lipsrsealed: )... basicaly my driveshaft snapped same day i got poly bushes fitted in the dogbone mount and tt bushes fitted in (year and half ago).. is there anyway the poly bushes in the dogbone mount could be making the driveshaft generate play after a while due to the harshness of the bushes... becuase my area is full of pot hole and road humps so it would cause lot of stress due to have poly bushes in :undecided:
-
i got some v6 4m drive shafts in the garage, i dunno if they are the same mate, only done 10k
-
They'll be different mate :-(
-
The poly mounts shouldnt make any difference i would have thought....
-
They do make the drive a lot more harder and stiffer.. Just at the garage.. No marks or anything on the driveshaft itself so nothing hiting it and the engine is siting fine.. I think the actual driveshaft was just re-coned sh1t. The garage guy managed source me one hopefuly not no sh1ty one agen
-
Have the engine mounts gone....
Could it be when the car is pulling away, the engine is moving in the mounts and causing the gearbox/driveshafts to twist/flex causing strain on them.....Where has your drive shaft snapped ect..could you post a pic at all...??
