Title: newbie says hello
Post by: monkeyalan on 31 March 2005, 19:13
Hello.

recently  bought a mint and as yet unmodified 95 Mk3 8v with FVWSH and 57k on the clock.

had the coil pack problem already but not too bothered as just got rid of a rover 216si(!**!!**) that cost more to keep fixing than it did to buy!

Anyway, just wondered if it's worth getting a new ecu relay as i've read on here it may be part of the problem.

Been a long while since i've owned a veedub (jetta tx 10 years back) but looking forward to some (comparitivley) reliable modding and fun!

welcome!

mileage sounds very low for the age...  an average of very little over 5k per year in its life?

the problem was the coil pack failing so no spark, a common problem from what I've heard/ read.

yeah , v low miles and genuine according to hpi, mot's and service record. It took me months to find a good straight un modded one. Paid £2800 with 12 months T&T.

yeah the coil is rumoured to be dodgy. its no the coil itself but something on the back? mine went one time and left me stranded somewhere.

..my cars mileage is 'genuine' according to HPI.. but i noticed something dodgy in the service manual a year after I bought the car.. i'm sure mines been clocked. :(

the bloke where i got my new one said that. it's the bit you plug into thats the weak point but as it's a sealed unit you're stuffed.
