right heres the thing, got in my car this morning and it wouldnt start
had to try loads of times before it finally fired. but it ran really rough, sounded like it had no exhaust on it, and wasnt running on its full compliment of cylinders.
it was really low on petrol, like lower than the red, so i nursed it to the petty station and put a whole tank in. started first time this time but still ran a bit rough, so i sprayed wd40 under the dizzy cap and in the ends of the ht leads and on the sparkies to get rid of any moisture. ran a bit better but still not right.
noticed that the rubber bung on the rocker cover has a slight split in it about 10mm long
coolant seems ok as does the oil
the only other thing is i silicone sealed the lid for the airflow sensor back on cos it was half off but i did this tues night and have driven loads since then with no bother. dont think i got anysilicone inside cos i didnt use that much.
the car ran absolutely fine yesterday i just ran it much lower on petrol than i would normally
anyone got any ideas?
its a 1992 digi 8v
ps timing is spot on i know this for sure

I dont know if i'm stating the obvious but i had the same problem. Sound like you've dragged a hole load of sh!t up and blocked one
or more injectors, hence not running on all cylinders,. you need to clean your fuel system through, replace fuel filter, unblock
injectors, you can buy additives to put in your fuel but you may have to clean the injectors by hand. good luck dude

Could be the MAF has been damaged with the cover off - these are so sensitive !
I don't think this will be an easy one to fix though - niggles never are !!
I'd start with the MAF then the fuel system, then electrical ...

you mean the crankcase breather bung? these always split and you'd be surprised how rough they can run with a split. they are only a few quid from gsf and i think are as cheap from vw. replace that as chances are it'll solve your problems. i assume it must give a funny amount of air into the isv.
