Does anyone know of somewhere where I can get longer gear ratios? Sitting at 70 on the motorway the car is at 3500rpm yet when i had a mk1 punto I was hitting 85 at the same revs
I
Would like to get longer gears so also improve mpg as the revs would be alot lower too

Start with what car you have, it would help.
If you have a 1.8/1.6 fit a 2.0L box...
If you have a 1.4/early 1.6... buy a 2.0L
If you have a 2.0L ... put up with it, its not worth the hassle... infact none of it is worth the hassle, and you will mess up the acceleration and loose torque if you play with boxes.

I will need a different box for my new engine!
Any suggestions?
-
what engine is it?
-
ABF with maybe 220bhp!

What you after Len? A lower final drive?
Could fit the CTN gearbox from the diesels, I think thats still a 02A

From what I am told (Ess-Three) I will need a higher first and then closer ratios.
Will also have to have an LSD with a different ratio as well.
Hmmm a diesel box eh?
Getting a diesel engine from a scrapper so maybe the box as well? Its a Tdi 1Y engine.

Here's what BB's website about the gearboxes says:
Code Type cc code Speed Dates 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Final
CDA 02A 2 ABF 5 01/93 - 03/96 3,300 1,944 1,308 1,029 0,837 3,684
CTN 02A 1.9 1Z/AHU/ALE 5 12/94 - 05/96 3,778 2,118 1,360 0,971 0,756 3,158
I hate reading gearbox ratios....
Also his website says 1Y is only 020
