Title: Revo Stage 1
Post by: DubaiGTI on 21 May 2011, 07:28
Morning All,

I've had my GTI mk6 for over a month now and would like a little boost in power.  I'm tempted to do the Revo Stage 1 upgrade here in Dubai.  I've done just over 2,500 km so far since new.  Is it ok to proceed at this stage or does the car need more breaking in?

Will the DSG gearbox and other parts of the car cope with the power hike?  Or do you recommend other essential modifications?

Would love to hear your first hand experience.  Happy with Revo?  The results?

Thanks for your help

Revo stage 1 will be fine with your car. If you have any problems with your car/engine it will not be because of the Revo software but because of a failing part. Guys are running stage 3 on their TSI without problems ( of course they had to upgrade certain parts i.e intake, exhaust, intercooler etc). 2500 is plenty miles on the car so go and enjoy the extra  horses!!!

Do it!
It will turn a Golf into a proper GTI.

Just make sure you keep the air filter nice and clean in your luxurious hot and dry dusty weather.   Not that I'm jealous or anything.....

Thanks Chaps, appreciate your comments.

It was 47 C on Friday.  Too bloody hot!  It's lovely here from October to early April, but summers are hell.

They will perform the Revo stage 1 upgrade on Saturday.  Will let you know how it goes!

(Already thinking about stage 2......).

With stage 2 you'd definately need an uprated intercooler in the heat out there.

Yer I was just thinking a fooking huuge intercooler may be your best bet for performance upgrades, it would give you a little more lag but would make up for it when it kicked in. Living in Dubai im sure you are not short of cash either, you could look into water based intercoolers. Ideal for 50deg heat

OP, don't listen to them as they are all quite stunningly insane.
It will be interesting to see how trouble free and driver centric your REVO turns out to be. Hopefully, it won't be another case of Tomato Power.

I know there were old issues with the REVO stage 1, I thought these were all resolved. Is that not the case?

Gilly, I am sure it is fine now and at long last but very near the day you'll have to dump it! How very annoying after all that time. Such a waste. Bluefin would have had fewer issues.

Revo is fine... it does what it says on the tin. Im just not sure the rest of the car is up to handling the extra power. I certainly wouldnt want a GTI without a remap though!

If you wish to thrash your car within an inch of its life with or without REVO, they should together take it like laaaaiiiidies!
So you think it is the car and not REVO? I don't buy that. No such problems with Bluefin it would seem.
Anyway, it's all academic now as you will be soon be rid of both problems.

very true. However i certainly dont buy into this treating a car like a little kid.

a car is a tool (should you chose to accept or not).. a car should be thrashed esp a performance car. otherwise whats the point?? I didnt get a golf because of how it looks but how it drives. when it fails to do that to a satisfactory level then its in the bin

Gilly, I've started thrashing mine too and it feels all the better for it. It's flying now and ever so smooth and responsive. Treat 'em mean and keep 'em keen.

After 2.5k miles, I red line as much as possible. Never did any of my cars any harm. In fact, they thrive on it.
