Title: Possibly stripping my Golf :(
Post by: vwfiend on 21 May 2011, 01:44
Hi all, not really sure what to do and wouldnt mind some opinions....... Ive tried to sell my car for the last month or so and it hasnt gone, to the point, where im in my mind, almost giving it away. Would you carry on and make a tragic loss  OR  strip it of everything Ive made it into and sell everything separate and just a standard base car at the end? If I was to take the bits off Id have for sale

Forge FMIC with crash bar (£400)
KW rear anti roll bar (£100)
Milltek cat back system (£200)
Simota Aeroform CAI (£120)
Anni gearknob (£45)
Anni mats (£30)
Anni handbrake (£45)
Anni steering wheel (£65)
TT pedals (£20)
FK AK coilovers (£100)
LCR rear brakes (£150)
BBS RC's in anthracite black (£400)
Neuspeed upper strut brace (£50)
And possibly a Ko3s, TIP, Forge D/V and 3'' downpipe with sports cat for probably £275 ish

Do you reckon its worth the hassle of taking it all apart and being without my weekend car for a few weeks and then driving from Norwich to Hinkley to get the map reset or would you sell it how it is. I dont think Ive overpriced my car as £2600 for the lot or overvalued the parts above. The recession has really messed up a lot. Ive never had so much trouble selling a car before. Many thanks for anyones input. This isnt a sale thread, more an opinions

Mate what a b!tch to hear, I'd well take it off you if I hadn't made the decision to switch to Derv! :undecided:

I've not even put my 1.8T on the market yet, and judging by this post, all I'm going to face is disappointment too, as yours is muchmoree specced up

It's sad to begin ripping your pride and joy to pieces, selling the fancy bits and the car as stock, but the financial benefit will by far outway the time and inconvenience. For a start, you've just listed £2000 worth of parts that would be snapped up by several buyers! Then you could lower the price of the standard spec car, making it more appealing to a wider audience

Shotgun the coilies and the gear knob if you do decide to strip it mate!!

It's such a shame to do so, but I think it would be the only way tbh :( which is a shame cause it's nice!!

Do what you feel is right :)

you still got the standard parts to put back on tho?

Ironically as soon as i decide to break it, my mate phoned me and said he was Enroute to pick it up...... I let him have it for a steal but it saves the time, hassle and dismay of breaking it. I did however retain the wheels and all original removed parts so i now have

Standard suspension and springs
Standard side mount intercooler
Standard crashbar
Standard airbox and filter
Standard Ko3
Standard Ko3 intake pipe
Standard cat and downpipe
Standard hanbrake gaiter
VRS rear bushes (brand new)
Anni steering wheel
Standard d/v
Standard rear calipers with used discs and pads
BBS RC's in Black Anthracite and legal tyres

Offers welcome on all above or ideally (although very unlikely) for the whole lot. £600 for everything ive got left would be sufficient

Also, very sorry for building peoples hopes up for no reason although on heinsight i think selling it in one go and losing a few hundred quid is better than the time and money it would have been to drive to Hinkly to get map reset before being able to remove any performance bits and then looking at a standard car id put thousands into that still cant outdo a standard teg in either acceleration, cornering or reliability......

Least u know it's going to someone who will look after it plus u will still be able to see it which must be stood feeling for u. Don't blame u for not breaking it would of done the same thing if I was in your shoes

strip and sell it standard,

i am sure rhyso will pop up with the figures from when he sold his

in total i sold the car and bits for £4500

Sold the car for £3500 and bits for £1000.  That didn't include the TBE, uprated brakes, wheel spacers or rear anti roll bar

I don't envy anyone trying to sell a MK4 at the moment as prices are at rock bottom

fraid not n it really pisses me of when you spend all that time on money and no one appreciates its

Welcome to the world of modified cars  :lipsrsealed:

When selling on, no one wants a modified example, unless you happen to find someone whose looking for exactly what you're selling.

I had more messages about the bits on my car rather than the actual car itself despite all the positive comments I got about how it looked and how well maintained it was........

The 'scene' has nothing to do with selling a car though.  By selling a modified car you are limiting your market considerably.

To maximise your money strip and return to standard.  Offer to do swaps with members in exchange for standard parts if you don't have the standard parts you've removed

I could have sold every single performance part today off my car separately with the amount of interest I had. Just sods law that not one of the 1500 viewers on my ebay ads didnt want the whole lot already on the car. Im not too fussed really because a majority of the money that went into mine was labour and maintenance parts, I owned and enjoyed the car for a year and a half, paid £1000 originally for it completely standard and helped a mate out with a nicely done Golf for £2000. If I get another Golf Im definitely gonna buy one already done! DC2 ITR FTW.........

How good is the standard ko3... any play, cracks etc and what milage has it got?
Title: Re: Possibly stripping my Golf :(
Post by: vwfiend on 24 May 2011, 19:52
No cracks bud, slightly less play than the Ko3s that I replaced it with (next to none at all) and about 60-70,000 on it. I had a receipt from VW Vindis for the replacement from first owner that current owner now possesses. Ill give it a good clean up and double check for you bud
