Title: byebye clutch pedal (snapped)
Post by: aaran on 20 May 2011, 18:15
today was left stranded for 2 hours because my clutch linkage and actual pedal snapped on me (mk4 gti agu)

its the final straw for me, never owned such a problematic car before lol, as soon as its fixed its going up for sale (so far has had ignition amp, coil, thermo, bearings, windows falling out lol)

i bodged the cylinder link back together (long 8mm bolt + nut and 2 cable ties) vw have the parts coming in on Wednesday. how hard is it to change the assembly? all the plastic tabs have broken and also the metal mounting bracket welded to the clutch pedal has also snapped so that needs to come off to

Cheers

mind when the linkage snaps it can break the clutch cylinder too (you pushed past its normal limit) while its all in bits id replace that too. think there about 20-30 quid (been a long time since ive bought owt like that so may be considerably more!)

so far your probs have been normal common ones, and not the worst jobs in the world to fix, the grass isnt greener on the other side.

cylinder is fine, its not leaking and the linkage looks ok, jsut drove it home form work (2 miles) other than the pedal sitting high the bodge seems to be working and the car drives fine
