Hi everyone,
Looking to lower a Mk2 8v by 40mm... What springs would people recommend? Are SPAX any good?
Cheers,

yeah spax are pretty good. you realy want to try to get shocks and springs at the same time because the matching shox will have shorter dampers to be set up for the lower springs and chances are your shocks are due a replacement anyway. the ones that seem pretty popular for price are from euro car parts and comprise a set of bilstein shocks and ventura springs. a few people on here have this set up and for the money it seems to be a bit of a winner. should be around the £175 mark. not sure about the spax range but i know they do various levels of quality so you should be find something in your budget.

Thanks for the info guys.
I was gonna go for x4 new Boge gas shocks (originals) and the 40mm SPAX springs... What do you reckon that would be like?

Get the streetline Kit from Eurocarparts. Stuart at the Leeds branch will do them for £187.00 including VAT and delivery.

The mk2 Golf has two different types of front strut, sealed and insert (or non-sealed as it's sometimes called). To make the replacement easier get the sealed unit, regardless of whether you've got inserts on the car now, as this is sooo much easier than having to funk about getting the insert out.
It's been said many times before that if your std shocks are relatively new and in good nick, try the Eibach springs with the std shocks as they work very well together - I think they are about a 35-40mm drop, and are about £115 depending on where you buy them.
