oes it have a "W" for winter button where the ESP button is ? if it has not it is a 140bhp and vice versa for 170

if tail pipes come out of bumper it's 170 and has dpf

140 has hidden pipes which point down.

but there are later model 140's which have dpf's also.

in that case the i don't know - DPF cars have straight out tail peeps

the only tell tale would be the 312mm brakes on the 170 but that's not the issue here

I'm 99.999999999% sure that no 140 PD TDI's had DPFs. These were only introduced with CR engines (with the exception of 170 PDs) and I'm pretty sure that there are no Mk5's with CR engines.

I've had some 140's with DPF's

Look at you turbo, do you have a normal looking exhaust pipe coming from it or does it look like a big silencer?

If your not sure take a pic and upload it.

I wanted to know this as well!

I have a 2007 GT TDI 170 and it was mapped by Awesome early this year, they said they couldn't re-map the CR but could re-map the DPF so I presume mine is a DPF? or whatever they are called!

CR = Common rail engine
DPF = Diesel particulate filter.

Both CR and PD engines have a DPF in the 170 BHP versions

I can't see why they couldnt map a CR engine though  :huh:

How do you tell the difference between CR and DPF?

The Golf 140 pd diesel never ever ever ever ever came with the DPF, even on the later models, the only reason the 170 had it was to keep the emissions down due to increased power, the more fuel going into the system made more black crap out of the exhaust so VW put the diesel particulate filter on there.

they can map the DPF out.....so car doesn't do regen's all the time - only works if you do regular long journeys
or you will block up and never know.

risky ......i tried this but reverted back to std after my probs turned out to be temp sensor in exhaust
(i had running probs)

Just looked through 5 pages with the heading "mk5 golf 140pd dpf" but no hits as to the dpf on the 140pd, although other VAG cars do have it on the 140 and the 105 on the Audi A3...

This is off Elsawin the bible,  if you think the GOLF had a dpf on the 140pd then you need to speak to VW and tell the tech they should throw Elsawin in the bin.

Hope you can make sense of this but basically it is showing that only the 125Kw/170hp Golf had the DPF.

Sorry but them adverts are not fact Craig...there just adverts of people selling a car who really have not read up on what they are selling.

I've also just called a mate down at VW one of the master techs because it is bugging me now and the DPF only came on the Touran, Passat with the 140pd engine.

I also would like to think that Elsawin is right and the guys at VW fixing these things will know what they are working on, not all the time but most of the time :sad: :grin:

You can get 1.9 DPF MK5 golfs too  :nerd:

I can almost feel that 2p in my sky rocket now  :grin:

You know as well as I do that VAG techs are hardly the last word in accuracy.....

Tis all good - really looking forward to that 2p  :grin:

OP

*IF* you have one it will be at the back of the engine coming from the turbo outlet:

(It's the big steel coloured mass that looks like a submarine with a sensor and tubes coming from it)

Here's one after removal:

No I think its the first time you've mentioned it  :smiley:
