Title: Changing a door mirror
Post by: dubber36 on 19 May 2011, 20:25
My Mrs has bashed the drivers door mirror off today.

Anyway, TPS will have a new one for me on Saturday morning, but I'm a bit unsure about the wiring.

Removing the mirror itself is simply enough, but where does the wire go when is disappears behind the door card? Do I need to take the complete door card off, or does it plug into the window switch cluster. If that is the case, how does that come out?

Can anyone tell me how to remove the door card without chombling the trim up then?

Some info from SteveP in THIS (http://www.mk6golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,124.0.html) thread

Once you have removed the screws this is the order to release the clips.

Thanks Mike, that is really usefull.

I'd figured out how the trim panel on the handle comes off to expose the torx screws, but wasn't sure what was required to prize out the other clips.

This looks to be quite a simple job and not as expensive as I'd feared. The complete mirror housing, glass and cover (unpainted) come to £123.32 + VAT. If it had auto dimming external mirrors, the glass would have been £234.00

It was airing Simon. Our daughter was sick in it on the way back from hospital Wednesday night . I'd stripped it out and vaxed it within an inch of it's life yesterday morning.

She's fine thanks.

She had been in to have some wires taken out of her arm that had been put in when she broke it about 6 weeks ago. Back at school yesterday, running and jumping about as if nothing had ever happened.

Oh to be 5 again.

Well the new mirror is on, the cover is at the body shop and should be ready on Tuesday.

It was not as bad or expensive a job as I had first feared. Just under £180 all in and about 15 minutes work. £180 I could have done without spending, but heh ho.

Thanks for posting the info Mike. It was a great help and made the job very simple.
