Title: Since the car is offroad.......
Post by: _Adam_ on 19 May 2011, 11:09
thought i'd give it a clean, used a clay bar for the first time and autoglym polish, results are shocking close up!

Looking good man  Was the clay bar hard to use?
The headlights really suit the car too. I had the same ones but took them off, didn't really go with the colour. Looks great on a silver mk5 though

thanks

it was hard in the fact that some specs under the bump strip were persistent to not come off, and took about 3.5 hours alltogether start to finish. but generally using the bar is easy, you just spray on some sort of polish or clay bar specific product, and rub untill it slips easily.

the difference in touch is outstanding, before when you rubbed your hand on the paint it sounds like sanding a board of wood, now it's dead silent :)

if you have never used a clay bar before you will eb shocked when you see all the crap it picks up off of the paint work!! and once you use it your whole cleaning routine will change  for the better obviously

That car is a 2.0 TDI.
But now looks like a GT sports.
Why not make it look like a Pirelli or ED30 as it's fully coloured in.

Nahh, a Gti is easier, as they look simular to start with. Ed30 and Pirelli has more road presence

it wasnt supposed to be a replica of anything  :undecided:, the rear bumper was colour coded as standard and the front had to be changed (the standard one is sh!te!) the grille looks crap without a badge and so it was either Gt or GT sport, and went for sport as it's not a 170.
then i had the bumper re-sprayed and asked them to do the splitter too.

i do get stick sometimes for 'trying to be a GTI' but the only GTI parts are the honeycombe grills.

But clean eh? lol

You've made a really nice job there. TBO I didn't even realize at first it wasn't a GTI until you posted the before shot ( not that you trying to produce a replica ).

I bet you've spent a few bob on the car?

_Adam_, ignore Egbutt Wash, he is the local forum troll that goes around looking for a reaction.

Car looks fantastic, hope its not off the road for long ? ? I keep meaning to get Guy to do a number on my car but I just cant justify paying someone that amount of money to clean my car. Have you ever clayed before? Might have to give it a go as my black GTI has swirls all over it :(

Cheers Alan,
well i'm hoping it will be fixed soon but i have no idea whats wrong, and after spending £550 getting it through the MOT i'm a little short of cash for repairs!
never clayed a car before, just watched a miguirs video on youtube and copied what he did lol. it's easy enough but you have to polish afterwards as the clay bar will make alot of streaks etc where the residue comes off.
