I'm 19 and I can get £2000 with a mk2 1.8 valver (1yr no claims) so you should be able to find it cheaper somewhere.

I went with Barclays for my first year only because they were the cheapest (Around 2800 but that is with a 1.8 gti).

Do not insure your car as your parents as the policy holder, with you being the main driver of the car. You'll be breaking the law.

Tru dat!

It's called 'fronting' and is fraud, if you crash (or are crashed into) the insurance companies will do ANYTHING to prove it and void your insurance and possibly even fine you.

It's better to put yourself as the main driver and them as named drivers.

I'd say that is the only way to do it.

Yup, most classic insurance companies will only cover you if you are 25+ and the car is over a certain age. I looked into it myself last year

i'm 19, was 18 when I took the policy out on a Saxo Vtr paying £1450 all upfront with parents and sister as named drivers, then when that went bang I bought the Rover, if I remember correctly at the time I could of got insured on a mk4 1.8t for £2000, same for a mk2 gti 8v and mk3 8v but had a £2000 budget for car and insurance..

I was 18 (2 months before my 19th birthday) when I took out my policy on my Golf mk3 1.4 'L' and my cheapest quote from admiral was £2,040 :O although already looking at renewal prices for September (Just out of curiosity) and with my 1st years no claims it's going down to £1,343 with Endsleigh.

i had to pay £1800 when i was 20 for my mk 4 2.0 GTI, no years claims which sucks as i did have 3 but as i was only a named driver it wasnt accepted . That was with admiral who were the cheapest then.

Now 21 just about to insure mk 4 1.8T 1yrs no claims fully comp for £1000 so not too bad thats with ELEPHANT or ADMIRAL which seem to be the cheapest now with mum and dad as named drivers which brought it down about £100-200 so worth doing.

Insurance companies like to rape young boys. The stroy in the paper of a 17 yeard old with a 1.0 Corsa (thinking it would be cheap to insure) then the insurance company coming back with £72000

I'm 19 as well and I got quoted £600 for my mk3 1.6cl with both parents as named drivers with elephant. just got quoted £740 for a mk2 gti and £1150 for a vr6, so i'm quite tempted now! But yeah try elephant and admiral.

no i'm the main driver and vehicle registered as mine, admiral gave me two years ncb from being on a named driver on my parents policy.
