Title: steering wheel spline addaptor question?

Hi my golf came with a halfords special of a steering wheel fitted and i wanted to change it back to standard (i got one from the brakers) it was a later steering wheel so had a larger spline i have managed to get the spline addaptor but now i have fitted it im left with a gap between the rear of the steering wheel and the cowling as if the steering wheel is not pushed on far enough? has anyone else had this problem or do i need to change anything else to get it to fit propaly? :sad:

Are you fitting it to an early car?

Presume you have tightened the nut right up to push wheel on as far as it will go?

Yes I was trying to fit it to an early car but I have given up now lol. When I took the old steering wheel off there was a spring that Is held on with a small metal ring when I try to fit the new steering wheel the spring can't compress enough so stops the new wheel from fitting??
