I wasn't too sure if i was meant to post this here or in the garage section, and ive had a quick search and cant really find anything specific, but hey ho.
Right i have the 1.8t, out of curiosity, which engine is better, acceleration/ reliability/ top speed wise, the 1.8t or the 4 motion 2.8 v6?
And by that i dont mean which car, i mean doing an engine conversion from 1.8t to the 2.8, and keep the car only 2wd/fwd.
An just to complicate things some more, can i have the opinions for both engines standard, and then both fully modified.
Im just trying to weigh up if its better to sell my current car and get the 4 motion, or make it a long term project to transplant the engine, or to modify the 1.8t. I know everyone rates the 1.8t and it has huge modifying potential, but as it is standard it too slow for me, i need to decide now before i start on the expensive engine mods which is the best route to take, as if i spend all this money then in the end a modified 2.8 is quicker i would be rather annoyed.
Hope thats not too confusing.
Cheers for advance for your help.

1.8T I'm sure everyone will agree. You can get alot more out of them.

Cheaper to modify the 1.8T to bigger power
If you're going to do a transplant then get a 3.2 and slap a turbo or two on it

Yeahhhh

Depends on your total budget. 10K+ then R32 turbo or supercharger will be the best. Less than 10K 1.8t.

 Haha, in an ideal world i would definately do this, but i can not warrant spending that much on it.
Right so after posting i did some research and found a few threads, and like you guys have said the 1.8t seems to come up top, so im playing with the idea of 4 motion shell with the 1.8t engine, i know its been done before, but how complicated is the transplant?

Think you'll need an Audi S3 gearbox for starters as I don't think any golfs were 20vT and 4 motion. Only 6 pots and maybe dervs?
THen you'd need to get a 20vT engine loom and EcU spliced into the loom in the donor car and possibly you'll need a custom exhaust.

20vt with the quattro system. Thats what Dan at Rtech has.

Cheers for all your input guys, ive just started reading that thread, now that looks insane. Going to do some proper research and costing, but i think this is going to be the way forward.
So plans now are;
1.8t modified - kicking out somewhere around the 300+ mark, running 4wd.

Depends how deep you pockets are my mate has a 340bhp 4mo but wasnt cheap 1.8t is the cheaper way to go but the 4mo is a beautiful drive and quick and what a note I'm glad I went for the 4mo as I don't plan on tuning it I mainly am doing the exterior I have put a Anni kit on etc and bbs ch I may turbo it later but I like nicks idea r32 and turbo
If it wasn't cos I got the 4 mo at a steal it would have been r32 for me

Stick with the 1.8t.
