as above... looking to replace my spotlights (inner dual light grille)... can find mk2 ones no problem... will they fit a mk1?
-
I "think" that they are slightly smaller iirc.
-
Nope... certainly not a direct swap anyway. Someone tell me i'm wrong.
-
Oh, by they, I mean the mk1 spots are smaller.

ive got a spot light grill with spots i ll go and have a look and see if its ok, you would need to get the outer bits for it tho, btw its a 13 slat grill so dunno if it would fit your later rivage

It is different as my tintop is the reverse. I have a later cabby 5 bar grille on mine. I had to shave the clips off as they aren't the same as the 13 slat.
Sh*t, Guy, i'm starting to think that the spots fitment is different too thinking back to my standard white tintop I had with the same grille raferackstraw mentions! let me think/check before you go buying the ones i emailed you about or accepting the above offer.

I think the later spots are different. :undecided:

They share fitment with a mk2 I think which now makes me wonder if cabbys spots are the same as mk2's its just older tin tops with 13 slat grilles that are different...
Sorry Guy..... we will get this right soon
-
Right.... Sorry for the constantly changing answers. This is final
Tin top MK1 GTI spots (which has 13 slat grille) do not fit 5 bar caddy grille (I have a slightly modded late cabby grille on mine)
Late Cabby Spots (on 5 bar grill) do not fit tintop 13 slat grille
Mk2 spots do not fit tintop 13 slat grille
Mk2 spots (on 7 bar grille????) DO fit Late 5 bar caddy but note the brackets are very slightly different, but they will fit.

Your spots are smoked crystals though aren't they?... you could always smoke the headlights to match.

That looks good, like the box for the relays. Bit pricey though as the relays can be purchased for 99p upwards and the box cant cost that much, not sure how expensive the OEM connections were but I just used OEM from another loom. Also cable varies in price depending on quality... The whole lot is not hard to make yourself if you really wanted to or get someone on here that might make it for you?.... I swear RJ made them for half the price of the above.

i got mine off ebay for 36quid which i consider a very good price, it didnt have a fancy ip66 box and it was one relay for headlights and one for spots plus fuses for each relay. the relays sit between battery and wing and are fine, in 3 yrs i have not had a problem with it, £75 is a bit of a pi1sstake. with mine iirc the only wires you cut are the ones which come from the stalk which control high/low beam

I have the same setup as the £75 ones except I made it it myself.... The relay holders are situated in the same place as yours, they have screw holes to screw them to something but I intend to box them off. There is a way of doing it without cutting any wires. Didn't cut any on mine, the upgraded looms signal wires are plugged straight into the OEM loom (bulb end). Should there be a total failure of the upgrade (which is pretty impossible) I have the option of just plugging the OEM plugs back into the headlight bulbs.

I suppose to finish it off I could buy a funky box for the relays but I have a plastic one that I got from Chris (orange MK2 VR6) which I intend to house them in eventually even though it's really not vital at all.
