had same prob on mine ages ago. turned out to be the o2 sensor (lambda sensor) get vag com on to it, that will give you more details

where is the lambda sensor and isit easy to change?

Lambda sensor is probe attached to the front pipe.

Worth disconnecting the lambda sensor see if it runs better.

The connector is above the rear engine mount.

They about 50-70 quid from gsf etc.

Try disconnecting the sensor first if it runs better without the sensor then you know thats the problem.

You dont have to get under car.

The connector to lambda sensor is on the left hand side of engine bay should be near the master cylinder its a oblong connector just disconnect that and run engine.

Turned out to be a loose earth at the gearbox end. Give all earths a clean  :smiley:

i had the same sort of problem turned out to be the breather it was just hunting for air and then staying at constant rev's like this might be worth a check dont take my word for it

air breather near the throttle body make sure thats firmly in cos mine was leaking and it just kept hunting for air and idleing at 2000

all me breathers are tight :O no air leak but the alternator sound like it sucking air in or the belts sound like that :O :shocked:
