Title: strange noise changing gear
Post by: bullzeye on 16 May 2011, 13:36
Hi all, last week i bought a 1.8t , and everything was fine, now im not sure if im just used to the power now, but it doesent seem as quick as it was when i got it, also when im in 2nd gear and put foot down, then release the accelerator it makes a noise like a air release
i have only started hearing this noise in the last couple of days any ideas what it could be?

the turbo is at the back of the engine, where the cluster of blue pipes are on Daz veedub picture, its under there. :)

had a mechanic look at my car, he stook his ear in the engine and said yep, theres an airleak lol

but cant look at it untill next week, and he doesent know how long it will take to find the leak,

i have looked at the back of the engine but cant see the turbo, theres a big metal pipe thing , and im assuming its under that

is there any easier way to get to the turbo to check the pipes myself
(the car is completely standard, it was owned by a paramedic, and i think im the only one to give it abit of welly, so im presuming a brittle pipe has just split)

is there no othere garages u can take to, or no1 on here live near u 2 help out

that metal pipe will be ya charge pipe if am finking ur on about the same pipe  mate the turbo is down that way

easiest way is to get to turbo on a ramp or jack stands mate

hope ya sort problem out

+1 will be a brittle/spilt pipe

what fuel do u run it on
Title: Re: strange noise changing gear
Post by: bullzeye on 19 May 2011, 00:33
hi daz, i havent had it scanned as there are no warning lights on dash, i run it on normal unleaded, the cheap stuff as it does seem to drink fuel, maybe that also has something to do with loss of power and fuel useage

is the cat converter a big job? i hope not,i can hardly afford to run it at the moment lol

could there be faults on the engine that dont make a light come on the dash?
