Title: Brake switch brake lights always on?

Took the servo out to replace it. Now when I've come to put the clevis pin into the brake pedal the pedal now sits too far away from the brake switch thus the brake lights are always on. Pedal seems to be sitting higher than normal too, I know the brake pedal should sit a tiny bit higher.

Took some photo's to try and show what I mean, but the aren't brilliant.

Clevis pin out so pedal isn't connected to the Servo plunger.

There's approx 10-15mm gap now that I can't account for. Checked that I haven't moved the switch somehow, even put the old servo back in to check and it's the same. Is the a rubber bung or something I've knocked off?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Pull it out.

No, really - just pull the plunger out until it contacts the back of the pedal.

And I'm very much a reluctant motor mechanic.

Looking forward to just getting the Damn thing MOT'd.

Maybe the car knows how much of a beating it's going to get when that happens hence why it fights me every step of the way?

On the plus side I'm going to to do a better job of painting servo now it's out again. Every cloud and that.

The ratchet on the plunger will wear out over a period of time, meaning the plunger will keep retracting back in with a few brake pedal pushes.

Unfortunately thsi results in brakes lights being on constantly and a flat battery  :lipsrsealed: (personal experience)

Didn't know that either. Take it the only solution at that point is a new servo?
The servo I took out looked proper mullered. All the seals had disintergrated. Someone was saying you get a seal kit but I've not seen one. Didn't think they were servicable?

That doesn't make sense to me, if the ratchet is retracting back into the servo, how would replacing the switch sort the problem?

I've been up to the car this evening and clicked on to what people were talking about. I also repainted the servo so it won't rust as bad as the old one and refitted.
