Title: electric window switches?
Post by: aaron1980 on 15 May 2011, 11:55
Hi my car is a small bumper car that has the electric window switches in the dash as opposed to the center consol the problem is the switches dont fit well at all (some times they just push through the dash) im starting to think they are the wrong switches? as all the pics i can find of electric window switches in mk2,s is ones where they are in the consol. has anyone got any pics of there window switches so that i can compare them with mine. thanks. this is the mess i have

I'd hazard a guess they have been retro fit. I've never seen them on the dash.

there definitely dont look right they aren't even straight..

they are not straight because of the size of the holes. i think molegti is wright and they must of been fitted at a later date and as the center consol only has a storage hole above the ash tray someone has stuck the switches in the dash. so now i just need to sort out the best way to tidy them up with out changing the consol. thanks all

What's in your center console?

What year is your car? that looks like a very early item, the correct console should be easy and cheap to get hold of, and just drop straight in, if OE looms have been used, then they should reach the correct position on the new console...

Would have thought you car would have had EW's from Factory, maybe the first owner wanted manuel winders, or someone has nabbed them!

I believe the blanks are there on all electric window cars otherwise VW would need to make different door cards. The blanks are right but the switches on the dash look wrong. I still suspect its been adapted and they either couldn't or wouldn't source the right console.

i think you are wright and have managed to find some blanks to fill the holes so that i can move the window switches to where they belong. it will be good to tidy them up as they drive me mad at the minute lol

They did, but they were special order I think;

looks like that door card has been retrimmed, hence covering the hole / blank , but not sure why they wouldnt have covered the blanking point on the mirror adjustment hole?? assuming it had electric mirrors too? strange?

might have a couple of switch blanks kicking about in the garage you can have if i can find them, if not there not much pence on ebay :) , center console wouldnt be much either :)

Nope, you can see on the back that there has never been a hole in it

fair enough, still seems strange they would go to the bother of that and still leave a blank in for a non func manual mirror controller hole!!

your switches will look loads better in the right place, god knows why some one put them there??

You'll need to get the proper center console or try and adapt the console you have to make the switches fit..

I've only ever seen them fitted properly in a console, but if your Handy Manny I'm sure you can make them fit!!

Electric window Switches are a much smaller fitment than the standard switches.

If you get really stuck - I do have a window console for sale on the bay, came from a 5 door but will fit a 3 door...
