Just thought I should ask.

'tis 18s Mr Asker but if I get some winter wheels I think they will be 17s
-
Both are 18s Bridgestone Potenzas for the summer (only cos there's a fair bit of tread left on them) and Contis for the Winter, I really noticed the extra traction on these during the long snowy days and not much more noise TBH.
I may be looking for some new Summer tyres soon but am a bit unsure of what to go for.

For summer tyres:

Or,
http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/Goodyear-Eagle-F1-Asymmetric-2-is-here.htm
Go for the one with the best rim protection out of the two.

Just read the 1st page as I have constantly updated it.
Rim Protection
Here is another interesting Summer tyre review.
Still no comparative review for the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 tyres.
Trust the Russians to measure rim protection.
I was right all along that the Bridgestones have the best at 5.5 mm, closely followed by the Continental 5P tyres at 5 mm.
Note also the tyre weights. The lightest being the Continental followed by the Pirelli.
Overall, the Continental 5P gets the nod here.

All latest reviews are included in the Original Post.
Hope this helps.

Thanks again Asker the only trouble is they're quite a price per corner, looking on the Mytyres site there is an Asian tyre at £57 that gets high reviews. I quite fancy the contis tho.

Don't touch those. You get what you pay for. You'll suffer with bad grip, lots of noise and terrible handling.
The Goodyears are £127.60 per tyre.

The Continentals are £148 per tyre. Expensive, but the price will drop as availability improves.

Your Bridgestones are £133 per tyre.

In and out of stock and slightly cheaper than mytyres.
Personally, I would go for the Goodyears if you are in a rush as the new Continentals are an unknown quantity as they have not been reviewed as yet.

I'm on 17's, I'd have upgraded to the 18's if I would have gone for the 18's but having lived with the 17's I love them, what's mor I can get the goodyears for £110 fitted per corner
If I buy another GTD then it will be on 17's again.
But I won't be buying another MK6 diesel golf

funny how those without any experience of running 19z like to ass-ume. The ride on 19z is far better than 17z and 18z. Much more planted, more grip, and less mpg to pi$$ off the eco dudes. win win

There is a slight increase in firmness when going from 18s to 19s...but the vastly better steering feel and the ability to change direction with a flick of the wrists, plus the better feel when loaded up, more than makes up for the slight increase in firmness.

I'd love some 19" BBS CH but the price of £1,400 plus tyres is a bit too steep for me.....

Second hand ones are slightly less steep:
