Foul smell from exhaust?

The eliminate the MAF you can disconnect the plug from the maf and drive the car with the ecu using a generic MAF setting, if by unplugging the MAF the car runs sweet as a nut then the MAF is the fault. If its still the same then I would say its one of the 4 coild packs.

Foul smell from exhaust? This is a good sign of a dead coil pack or packs.

As far as I know VW are still changing coild packs for £free under warranty even on old AUMs ?  I dont know the full ins and outs but it might be worth calling your local vw dealer and finding out if your car is includes in this recall?

Where are you from?
Nick

Thanks for the suggestions Nick, I spoke to my mate Chris Beaney, I believe you know him and he suggested checking for air leak. I did find one but when I covered the leak it was still lumpy and very jerky idle, so im thinking there's either another leak somewhere or its like you said the MAF or a coil pack.  If it is a coil pack thanks for the heads up about the possible dealer recall. Ill try covering the leak and giving it a run with the MAF disconnected like you said and see how that goes.

Im from Chatham in Kent
Thanks Damon.

Ok cheers mate, I have come to the conclusion that is is the Coil-pack like you said, I unplugged the MAF and it ran like a dog, so rules that out, I found the air leak and sorted that and still it was running sh!t so leaves it down to the Coil-pack so I've ordered 4 new ones and hopefully should do the trick..

Another thing Nick, as I know you've done a few of the boys VW down here, my Golfs had an AMD remap, much to my disliking and was looking at coming up your way.. was just wondering what maps you do and what sort of performance you normally achieve, I have a print out from AMD for 201.9bhp I don't know how true that is though, im just running a Carbon induction and Forge DV007.  Also is it extra for the Launch control and left foot breaking I think its called?

An Rtech branch down here would definitely be good, lots of money to be made from boys down here.. lol

LOL I think the whole of the guys in your area are making the treck up here for even more power..  I am 100% sure we can do a 1.8T map better then most tuners, giving the customer exactly what they want, if your not happy you dont pay..

If you come up to us we can do you a live rolling road custom map setup to how you want it, plus with all the custom mapping extra you want such as the Linear-DBW-TB mapping, Launch control, left foot brake ect..
Spec1-custom = £250 all inc
Spec2- custom= £290 all inc

ps
Have you been out in Sams white Polo withthe R-Tech stage2 custom remap??

Na i aint been out in Sams but ive been out in Chris' lol, thats quick looking foward to you maxing it out for him lol.  Yeah AMD = FAIL :) Ill probably come up with him when you do Chris' car.  Oh and my car is being a right sh!t lol,  i ordered new coil packs n fitted them and no change so me n Chris been searching all round for a air leak anywhere and havnt really found anything apart from brittle hoses which i will be replacing and a boost hose which i had to temporarily tape up lol.  Atm everything is stripped down, intake off and rocker of which all the pipes read for a clean and new pipes, and whilst its out ill do the N249 Bypass (which i showed chris lmao) :D

Thanks
