When I declared my wheels, suspension and air filter in one go all I got charged was a £20 admin fee and an additional £4.54 to my premium making it £24.54! When I declared my exhaust it was when my policy was up for renewal anyway so I avoided the admin fee and paid about £10!

Some insurance companies class induction kits and exhausts as performance mods, and thus charge for them, whereas cosmetic mods are free.
-
they did ask me what added bhp i got from mods said errr bout 2 or 3 :lipsrsealed:
-
Do you get charged for having coilovers?
-
with my insurance company, any mods that do not effect the bhp of the car are free, including air filter and exhaust! but any engine mods they will charge for!

I wasn't sure whether to declare a remap from 150 to 180bhp. So I got quotes for with and without, and somehow a specialist insurer beat the best quote I got off confused for a standard version by £100. Glad I did now!

Specialist modified insurers can get better quotes for modded cars. And ALWAYS declare mods, as otherwise you have effectively no insurance

Yeah I agree really, but i definitely wanted the comparison of a std spec premium. I might even have considered reversing the mod if the difference was too big.
Some quotes were ridiculous. One of £8k! and one that made me double take- and must've been an error - of £29k!!!
-
on my old saxo vtr i was paying 1450, quote for lowered 40mm, exhaust and induction kit, they said 5000, so kept it standard
-
am paying £147 a month on my 1.8t with mods declared which cost me for declaring them
bare in mind thats with 9points declared fully comp for me and my missis
-
I seem to get better prices declaring mods.......over a std motor!!
HIC have schemes which are solely aimed at modified motors (as I found out recently when I got my std new car!!)

Declared the Schrick on the Corrado.... £10 extra for the year.
2 months later...
Declared the wheels (BBS RCs) and lowering (-30mm)... £120 extra for the year!
Seems that they would rather have extra BHP than safer handling!
