Title: Screeching noise
Post by: Nebbo on 28 March 2005, 17:45
Hey, wondering if you guys can help me sort this problem i have got at the moment!  Whilst driving the trusty Golf around, it has aquired a damn screeching noise (sounds like metal scraped on glass) it isn't very loud - but very annoying.  However as soon as i touch the brakes the noise stops and then continues again when i remove my foot.  Any ideas? Was wondering if it could just be a stone stuck?

Any reply is appreciatted!

if its brakes id look at the pads and discs etc.. maybe ones seized or is rubbing altho if it is slighty rubbing it wouldnt last long more likely than the fan belt or cam belt, if that fails might want to get the barings checked*

wont be the cambelt itself screeching but could be the cam belt tensioner or power steering belts etc

Well it must be the brakes if the noise stops when he touches the pedal??
or could be a worn front wheel bearing possibly.
Strip it down and have a look.

I had a screetching noise and it was the power steering belt. Which is a cheap and easy fix.
