Need to move my battery to get more space in the engine bay, not sure how its normally done but will probably fit some kind of junction box for the original cables and run 2 big cables to the new location. Is this how its normally done? What guage would I need to be safe?
Cheers

Only need one cable, t'other just ground very securely to the shell.
Go find a BMW or older Audi in a scrapyard - their batteries are in the boot/under the rear seat, so they have nice, long cables you can re-use.
-
cheers, I'll ge myself down the scrappy then :) Or most likely onto ebay lol.
Will probably just move it to the other side of the engine bay as I seem to have everything on the passenger side and nothing on the drivers side, but maybe boot it if its not to much hassle
-
I would be tempted to move it to the boot.

As DH says a BMW 5 series cable would be ideal, its plenty long enough and is very large gauge. It should have a terminal block on the other end. This allows you to retain several +ve terminal pick-up points in the engine bay, plus there is a large 'knob' on top for jump starting. :afro:

Heh.
Knob.

Aye I'm not sure I'd like a jump lead on my knob

OK, maybe a stupid question but if I get a 1x 0awg input and a 5x output, could it be used as a 5x input and 1x output? Also would I need to get any kind of fancy block or would any do as long as it was 0awg? and would I need a fused one? sorry I'm kinda an electrical noob :P

My battery cable comes into the bay and feeds this (with the big "+" sign on top)
NOTE: the thin red cable is not feeding the terminal block, it is an output!
The block has 2 primary outputs and 2 secondary outputs (which must be bridged from the primary outputs to become live)
Also under the big cap marked with the "+" logo, there's that big 'knob' i was talking about

would this be good enoguh for the job?

It will do the job but im unsure whether it's weather proof :undecided:
-
ah yeah, forgot about the goddam weather!
Where did you get yours from? I've tried searching ebay google and a few online shops but I cant find anything other than cheap stuff or ones designed for audio installs. Not really sure what to search for :undecided:

lol quick reply 1 min!
cheers I'll ask him :)

Right, it IS from a BMW, i had a poke around a K-reg E36 320i at work today and the terminal block is located on the OSF inner wing.
Get checking your local scrappys

Ayup Dan,seen this on edition earlier and thought of you.
"Ive got everything you need in kit form for you to relocate your battery in your boot.
I had this fitted to my VR6 golf for about 3 months. Abit dirty but in good condition.
You get ruffly 5m of proper high duty power cable RED (think its 650amp 11.5mm). Eyelet to connect to starter motor at one end. and connector to go to battery + at the other
Earthing cable including eyelet already attached to bolt to chassis and battery connector on the other end
£30"
Might be of some use.http://www.edition38.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=382875

cheers for that, only just seen it now though and it sold about 2 hours ago :(
Still on the lookout for a decent distribution/terminal block :)

Some in that lot any good?

Just grab the cable and distribution block from an old E36 BMW :nerd:
-
You may want to think of adding a terminal in the so you can jump start or charge etc. I have one in my lupo (Gti). Alot of manufactures put one under the bonnet for this purpose.
-
you can run the positive straight to the starter then distribute off it

Use BMW E36 cable and terminal block and all's good. Term block has jump start noggin on the top
