Has anybody got any insights into whether or not its a good idea to install a K&N 57i induction kit to my mk3 2.0L GTi 8V??
I've heard from some people its a good idea and from others that it isnt, so some clarity would be muchly appreciated

Nope, heat soak means little or no gain, better to fit a panel filter and mod the air box.

Don't.
They just let the engine suck in lots of hot air, which reduces performance...but sounds loud.
A better option is a K&N panel filter in a modified airbox...proven to ADD power as it keeps the air cold.
But then, the airboxe soen't sound as 'fast'

Save your money and effort and just stick a panel filter in a smoothed airbox & cold air intake, much more effective for the cost.
-
it will increase the noise but no noticable increae/decrease in power.
I'm on the lookout for a cheap one to make up my own mind though as i do like the noise :lipsrsealed:

Think the induction filter would be better if they supplied a heat shield with the kit..
Had both fitted to my car and would say the panel filter is the way to go..
-
A drilled airbox makes lots of noise and is free.

Most induction kit heat sheilds do f**k all though.

I have this mod at the moment but still want to "experiment" with a k&n cone filter, maybe knock up a heat shield that will work!

if you're intent on running a cone filter modify the existing airbox to have a fitting on the feed to the engine then cut the wing side of the airbox out
