Just as my MOT is due, the rear section exhaust has started blowing. My '91 GTI 8V is totally original and I think I would probably want an original replacement. Could anyone point me in the right drection of sourcing an original exhaust (is an official VW parts place the only option (expensive) or are German and Swedish almost identical in quality). The other thing I wanted help with is deciding whether there is any benefit in replacing the whole system as I plan to keep the car for a good few years (any advantages with better fitting etc).
Thanks!
Nick

might sound silly but try VW if not eurocarparts or gsf will do either a replacement or oem version. but thing to do is inspect your exhaust and decide for yourself 8v exhaust is in 4 parts including the downpipe there not expensive to replace standard but can be abit more if you have or require a new cat
down pipe = £20-30
first box =£20-30
Middle = £30-40
back box with twin pipes = £40-50
thats just a rough guide varies alot and will be alot more if you require a cat like i said.

Please let me know where I can get a downpipe for a digifant 8 valve Gti for £20 - £30. The best price I have seen is about £80 at Eurocarparts or GSF.
I am planning to replace my complete system.

DefectiveMk2, could you give me the eurocarparts part number. I can only find one downpipe at £69.99 plus vat.

Original + clamp + mounting rubbers was £42 from Main Dealer for me. Sounds just right, too.

Rain,
You must have bought the wrong downpipe. I got a discounted price from Stuart at Eurocarparts. The downpipe is £63.50, front £18.50 and centre box £19.50 plus vat £109.62 in total.

DefectiveMk2 or Rain (whatever your name is), I really am not sure who you are, however, I really would appreciate some information as to where I can get a downpipe for an eight valve 1989 digifant for £22.50. Please advise asap as I am really in need of a downpipe sometime soon.
